Time & Location
09 Aug 2020, 09:00 – 17:00
Torquay, Torquay, UK
About the Event
The course is led by instructors with many years of experience in Bushcraft, having used and taught the techniques you will learn.
In a day it is very difficult to fit in everything that we would like to cover, so we will focus on the most important, such as outdoor safety, water, food, fire and shelter.
Outdoor Safety – We begin our course by discussing outdoor safety, including how to correctly handle the equipment that we will be using throughout the day. Signalling for rescue and how to prevent getting into harms way.
Equipment - We will cover what we consider essential outdoor equipment, for both safety and comfort. We will look at some basic techniques for using the equipment.
Fire – For many people, lighting fires outdoors can prove to be a challenge. Usually a lack of preparation and/or poor technique can lead to failure. We’ll show you how to identify and prepare natural materials and use them to create a sustainable fire.
Shelter – We’ll show you how to create a shelter that protects you against the elements, while insulating from the ground below, thereby creating a microclimate to defend against hypothermia.
Water - We'll show you how to find water even where it isn't obvious. We'll show you how to collect water from unlikely sources and make it safe to drink.
Food – Most people can make a delicious meal when using a stove with a consistent heat and fuel source, however cooking on an open fire with variable temperatures and no fixed cooking times can prove challenging. We’ll show you ways to prepare and cook a meal on the fire you have created.
