Game Preparation Course
14 July @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Living comfortably for long lengths of time outdoors requires a serious level of self-reliance and resourcefulness. This includes being able to maintain your own equipment, an understanding of native flora & fauna and being able to light a fire, cook in all weathers and process you own food.
The key focus of this course is game preparation, you will be shown & get hands-on in how to prepare one or more game animals for cooking. These change based on the seasons but are usually either rabbit/venison/pigeon or pheasant.
The course starts with a brief introduction then we get straight on with the game preparation. Respecting the animal is a key focus, please be aware that there is discussion around good & bad animal husbandry practices, conservation and environmental issues throughout the day, which some people can find difficult.
The game we process, with the exception of venison, comes whole, so the first activity is skinning. Next, we process the carcass into useable portions, some of this you are then able to cook to try on the day
