A winter gathering in the woods

Spend Saturday in the Devon woodland with like-minded people, or stay for the full weekend. Watch the venison butchery demonstration, share skills, practise at your own pace and gather around the communal fire.

This is a friendly gathering with room to explore, rather than a tightly scheduled course. Beginners are welcome, and experienced bushcrafters can share ideas.

What happens at the gathering

Shared skills

Saturday’s programme will include a venison butchery demonstration, blacksmithing demonstrations and basic hands-on forge activities with Chris Macleod, and longbow demonstrations by Dan from Devonshire Longbows. Dan will also be available for private instruction sessions. Jenny Carden of Dartmoor Herbalist will be making hawthorn ketchup and currywurst sauce to go with the venison, alongside other relaxed skill-sharing and activities. We’ll share further session details before the event.

Bring, swap and sell

Bring usable bushcraft or outdoor kit to swap, sell or give away. There’s no charge or formal setup. An optional charity donation jar will be available; please take home anything that doesn’t find a new home.

Campfire evening

Gather around the main fire on Saturday. A light campfire supper is included for day and weekend guests. Bring your own drinks, bowl, mug and cutlery.

Stay overnight

The £60 Weekend Ticket includes a woodland camping pitch for your own tent, tarp or hammock. Optional furnished yurt hire is £100 per yurt, sleeping up to five. Add one Yurt ticket per yurt alongside the required Weekend Ticket(s). Yurt booking closes Friday 13 November.

How the weekend unfolds

Choose your ticket

Saturday Day Ticket — £40: Saturday from 10:00 until after the campfire supper, including the venison butchery demonstration, informal sessions and a light supper. No overnight camping or Sunday access.

Weekend Ticket — £60: Everything on Saturday, one night’s woodland camping and Sunday’s sessions until 14:30. Toilets and showers are available on site.

Optional yurt — £100 per yurt: Furnished accommodation for up to five, booked alongside Weekend Tickets for the people staying in it.

What to bring

Everyone should bring warm waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear, a torch or headtorch, a bowl, mug and cutlery, a drinking bottle, and lunch and snacks. Weekend campers should also bring breakfast, a tent, tarp or hammock and a suitable sleeping system, unless they have booked a yurt. Full joining instructions will be sent before the event.

Before you book

Who can attend?

Adults and young people aged 16–17 when accompanied by a paying adult. No previous bushcraft experience is required.

When and where?

Saturday 21 November from 10:00, with day guests leaving after the campfire supper. Weekend guests stay until 14:30 on Sunday 22 November 2026. Yurtcamp Devon, Staplehill Road, Liverton, Devon, TQ12 6FU.
